SHREVEPORT, LA - More than 20 current and alumni fencers from Caddo Magnet High School celebrated their school ties and the fencing program that keeps them all linked this past weekend at CMHS as the first "Untouchables" Reunion Open passed into history.  Some came to fence, and some came to connect.  Everyone was satisfied.

Of the four events held, Magnet took two victories- Evelyn Scarborough (class of '02) renewed her "E04" by winning the women's foil event, then she went on to battle alum, Michael Aufrichtig (class of '89) for the epee title.  Aufrichtig came down to participate in the tournament from his home in New York where he fences for NY Athletic Club.

Clint Bowers (class of '01) and Daniel Charlick (FASF) earned their "B04" in the epee event, while Noam Platt (class of '06) and George Leach (class of '99) earned their "D04" and Layne LeBleu (CMAFF) earned an "E04."

Another attraction was Maitre Alex Beguinet, (head fencing coach at Duke University) who was snagged as referee for the event since he was in the area conducting an advanced foil seminar.  Maitre Beguinet has a long association with Magnet and watched one of his own fencers, Dorothy Hubbard (class of 02) participate in this tournament.

The tournament was organized by the matriarch of Shreveport fencing, Sharron Settlemire.  "Sett" as she is called by most students, and Scarborough worked several months planning the event that borrowed the theme used by early teams at Magnet who called themselves "Untouchables."  Sett invites all the "Untouchables" to keep in touch at the Caddo Magnet Alumni Fencers and Friends website http://www.geocities.com/cmhsalumni/
