G.O.T. RECAPS
U19 Mixed Foil (6 competitors - E1 event)
Noam Platt was disappointed in his pools finishing 2-3, but
apparently got his groove on in the direct elimination, winning his first one
15-5, his second 15-4, and his third, for the gold, 15-9.
Open Mixed Foil (18 competitors - C1 event)
Pools went a little better for Noam where he finished 3-2
with an acceptable loss to Vitaly Boxinger, seeding Noam 7th for the d.e. and
gaining a bye into the 16. In the d.e. phase, lefty Michael Bell was
quickly eliminated 15-4, but then 1st seed Jim Arentz managed to pull away from
Noam's initial ability to stay head to head - keeping him out of the top 4, but
finishing an impressive 6th.
Open Mixed Epee (29 competitors - B2 event)
Elise Ackley went 1-4
in her pools, then drew formidable Christa French in DE’s . Elise had a 5-1 lead
at the start, but then Christa came back and won 15-8.
Addison Lacy had to fence Chris Gardner in the first d.e. Addison advanced only to face Evelyn Scarborough who took him out of the medal round.
Evelyn Scarborough was initially seeded 3rd in the field of 29. She went undefeated in pools, 5-0, to start direct eliminations seeded 2nd. She received a bye into the round of 16, where she fenced Caddo Magnet student Addison Lacy (E04, CMFC). She emerged with a 15-8 victory and then hit 7th seed Brent Kelly in the top 8. Kelly had previously beat Princeton undergrad Erin McGarry (A03, USMPA) in the 16 and he continued his run for the gold by playing the flick game with Evelyn 10-15. Kelly finished in 1st place.
U19 Mixed Epee (21 competitors - B1 event)
On the second
day, Elise went 0-5 in pools, then had to fence Jeff Taylor, losing 15-9.
Women's Epee (7 competitors - E1 event)
Elise went 50% in pools, but then having to fence Diane Kallus (former Veteran
World Champion), she lost the first d.e. 15-7.
Open Mixed Sabre (7 competitors - E1 event)
Addison lost his
first d.e. to the accomplished talents of Jay Saenz (who finished 1st).
