U16 men's foil was first and Layne suited up.  In Layne's words "I didn't get last - NOR second to last!"  Layne finished 140 of 143, but enjoyed the great "behind the back" touch he made on a "B" fencer, so he was ok with his finish (after all - it's just foil!)  He didn't make the cut, but he stayed to watch the entire Div 1a sabre competition.

Paul Geraci started out well in the Div 2 men's epee, seeded FIRST after pools!!  Unhappily, Paul reports he had an easy pool and then a couple of fencers who were no real threat and he wasn't really prepared for a pretty good fencer when he got one.  He went out in the 64, but since he was 1st seed, he ended up 33rd.

After chatting briefly with Doc, the general idea was he wasn't very happy with his fencing so far, but he had another event or two to perform better.

Doc's team mate Vicki Reithel also fenced and as she walked by after d.e., she threw the thumbs down signal, apparently unhappy with her effort.

Dr. Vanderloos was scheduled to fence in the afternoon, but your web slave is sorry to admit wandering off to get pampered on the only day off from bout committee duties.
